by George Orwell
George Orwell has yet again pinpointed the oppressive nature of mankind and also shown its reckless desire of subjugating inferior beings in his book 'Animal Farm'.

Story:
An Alcoholic Farmer named Mr Jones of Manor Farm is shown to exploit his farm animals by compelling them to do his chores which the animals felt were a superfluity. Conditions at the farm were getting worse as Mr Jones was dealing with his problem of alcoholism. His men were very indolent, they completed the work which enthralled them, it resulted in animals left unfed, crops were not taken care of etc. Farm animals were not able to bear this injustice any longer and pigs instigated a rebellion. Animals were successful in subverting the owner and his men, the whole farm belonged to animals now, finally their fantasies were going to be true. Animals devised their own seven commandments and called their theory of being free from parasitic man as 'Animalism'.There is one major twist in the book effectuated by a pig named Nicholas to oust his comrade turned nemesis Snowball. After which a series of events take place but will the fate of animals change?

Review:
This story is very short as compared to other novels yet it satiates your intellect in a very subtle and enlightening  manner. Author has personified animals to give us his observations of the problems prevailing from aeons  in history of mankind.

Resemblance of hardships of farm animals and the slavery that has been going on for ages, be it African slaves, Jewish slaves, or slaves from  any other race is very uncanny . It was a simple case of human being disdaining other human(or animals in this case). It thoroughly shows us those who covet power and the feeling of subjugating others can cross any limits, for them comrades are dime a dozen. And the less intelligent animals are shown to  share  traits with the slaves such as being fastidious, being hopeful and working assiduously for their masters.

The two  characters Snowball and Napoleon are synonymous to angel and devil. They resemble good versus evil and  the book suggests if you don't support good with rigor you will gradually but surely pay.

All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.”

This quotation single-handedly helps in yielding what the author wants us to interpret from the book. Writer wants to convey that humans have a tendency to be envious to those who are intellectually more superior or those who are oppressing them  yet even if they overthrow their merciless tormentors they will emulate them as desire for power is continuous and unchanging which makes them indistinguishable.

This book is a must read as it caters a very known concept of human nature in a very inventive method. Vocabulary is pretty simple as compared to Orwellian standards.

Riddle:
You are standing in front of a room with one light bulb inside of it. You cannot see if it is on or off. Outside the room there are 3 switches in the off positions. You may turn the switches any way you want to. You stop turning the switches, enter the room and know which switch controls the light bulb. How?

“A short story is a love affair, a novel is a marriage. A short story is a photograph; a novel is a film.”
