Book Review #18 - The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck by Mark Manson
Good Day,
The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck
by Mark Manson
One of the best sources for people who do not like reading books to learn the essential principles of life in a way that is least boring for them with highly relatable examples.
Summary:
In a way, this book is all about how to healthily channelize your energy and be selective about values you give a fuck about. The value system you choose will help to determine the type of relationship you have with people, your attitudes towards life and overall how well your mental health will be.
How to choose things to give a fuck about?
Review:
Simple language and real-life examples that are easy to digest are the best traits of this book. In my opinion, the best concept put forward in this book is that of taking responsibility for everything that you are feeling. This way it will help you to move on from negative feelings and energy easily. The author has included a plethora of personal anecdotes in the book that helps you to connect with it as you won't feel that why is this doofus giving me advice or he won't understand what I am going through. Another noteworthy thing about this book is that it dives deep into the approach of introspection and how an individual should choose a set of values.
I do not completely agree with the initial chapter where Mark tries to somehow dismiss the concept of subconscious where he states that we keep wishing (for example -I wish I was rich) and expect that we become rich but in actuality, the whole game is of affirmation(thinking that you are rich/healthy) instead of wanting or needing anything. The book could have been more concise and although the author has very nicely explained the inevitability of death and how we should act keeping that fact in mind. I personally feel that the ending of the book was a bit boring.
My opinion: You should definitely read it once and try relating it to your personal life.
A very insightful review and has your honest opinion! Liked it
