Disclaimer: I am not going to give any list of books.
Follow these steps to immunize yourself from buyer's remorse.
- Make a Bucket list
This is one the most effective method for those who buy online. There are two modes based upon how actively you want to expand your list.
- Normal mode - Include books into your list which you come across while you are having conversation with your friends and the subject enthralls you.
- Ninja Mode - In this mode you are out there to make the best list which will help you in future purchases. You may tirelessly and diligently incorporate riveting books in your list. Be conscious while you are watching a movie, listening to a podcast or reading a newspaper or book.
2. Warren Buffet of the Bookstreet
Those who are very selective, critical or particular about books they buy should certainly employ this method. You require good internet connection and ample time. Go to a bookstore either you can blitz the bestselling rack or go to the rack which has genre of your preference. Go through the reviews assiduously and make an informed choice just like you are buying shares. One way can be, search for the best book on topic you want read.
3. Phone a friend
This one is pretty simple, go to a bookstore either select a book and then call or straight-away call a friend whom you think can guide you properly in selecting a good book. Trust is a big factor here but you save yourself from a lot of hassle.
4. Books read by people you look up to
It would be better If I gave an example to explain this point. I recently purchased a book "The Hitchhiker's Guide to Galaxy" by Douglas Adams as it has place in the list of Top 10 books of Bill Gates.
5. Tried and Tested
You can always repeat an author. For instance I love to repeat authors like Sidney Sheldon, Jeffrey Archer, Malcolm Gladwell etc.
6. Following trends at owner's risk.
You can buy a book which is trending or is very popular among your friends or social media. "The Subtle Art of not giving a F*ck" by Mark Manson is extremely sought-after book and I have read 2 chapters of the book and it is really good.
7. Be Impulsive.
This method can be a bit precarious but sometimes you should just trust your instincts and buy the book. I have bought a book just because I have heard a lot(good) about the author or the premise of the book is exceptionally gripping. You can also ask the vendor and trust his judgment.
Happy reading!!!!
